Welcome to RemoteHotelier!

Two things before we get into it:

  1. Happy International Women's Day to all the women reading this. March 8th is just around the corner, and I’d like to take a moment to recognize the women helping keep this industry running (especially to my wife, who also happens to work in hospitality 💖).

  2. This week's newsletter looks a little different. ITB Berlin just wrapped up, and A LOT happened in three days. Instead of picking one or two stories, I packed the most relevant ones into a single summary so you don't have to hunt for them. Hope you like it.

In today’s newsletter:

MAIN NEWS

#1 ITB Berlin 2026 turns into hotel tech's biggest product launch event

ITB Berlin delivered more announcements than I could fit in one newsletter. Here are the most notable:

Seems like if you have something worth showing, this is where you show it first. The fact that these companies use ITB to unveil new features tells you something about how seriously they're taking the European market and the attention they get with the event.

#2 Three major hotel chains under investigation

The UK's competition authority launched an investigation into Marriott, Hilton, IHG, and CoStar over suspected sharing of sensitive pricing data.

  • The Competition and Markets Authority is examining whether hotels used a benchmarking tool to exchange competitively sensitive pricing and commercial information.

  • The CMA confirmed all four companies are under investigation, and all are cooperating.

  • No conclusions have been reached yet on whether competition law was broken.

  • Similar allegations surfaced previously in the US, where lawsuits accused hotels of using data to coordinate pricing, though some cases were dismissed.

This case is worth watching closely because this investigation goes to the heart of something the industry has debated for years: where does shared market intelligence end and anticompetitive coordination begin? If the CMA finds that the data-sharing crossed a line, the implications go well beyond Marriott, Hilton, and IHG… it would force every hotel company that uses competitive benchmarking tools to rethink how they use that data. Regulation rarely stops at one case.

#3 Cendyn brings Meta Hotel Ads into its digital marketing platform

Cendyn adds Meta Hotel Ads to its Digital Marketing Platform, letting hotels run dynamic social ads across its social media platforms.

  • Meta Hotel Ads work alongside existing Cendyn channels (Google Metasearch, Performance Max, Search Ads, and Display) managed from a single platform.

  • Hotels can drive bookings either directly on Meta or redirect users to their own booking engine.

  • AI targeting matches ads to high-intent users as they scroll, capturing them earlier in the planning process.

Meta Hotel Ads and Google Hotel Ads are both metasearch formats, but they work differently. Google captures people who are already searching for a hotel. Meta intercepts them while they're scrolling, using behavior signals to predict intent. Conversion rates are lower because you're interrupting, not capturing. But they cover different parts of the funnel, which is exactly why managing them in one place makes sense.

PRODUCT UPDATES

🔌 Journey adds a new integration with SiteMinder that connects hotel room inventory to Journey’s booking engine with real time rates and availability. Hotels can also sell spa, dining, and other on property experiences in the same checkout as rooms to drive more ancillary revenue.

🔌 Cloudbeds expands its connection with Climber RMS (property of Revenue Analytics), giving hotels a two way integration that pulls PMS data and returns optimized rates and restrictions. Climber uses rate, reservation, and inventory data from Cloudbeds to generate AI driven pricing recommendations and market insights, with options to automate updates or review changes in a decision dashboard. One more RMS for the Swiss knife of the PMS.

🆕 Hapi launches Folio Finder, an API that lets hotel brands and tech providers search and pull guest folios and invoice details across properties and compatible PMS in real time. It’s built for multi PMS environments, reducing time spent jumping between systems and cutting delays in guest support, finance workflows, and data sharing. Interesting if you want to build custom integrations.

🆕 Wyndham adds new tools to its group booking platform, including a real time dashboard, customizable booking pages, and automatic group rates to reduce manual work for hotel teams. The updates also include direct integration with third party group travel platforms like EventPipe, EventConnect, and Staybook. If I were a franchisee, I would be happy to see this.

🆕 Choice Hotels kicks off its 11th annual tech innovation summit, bringing together more than 800 associates for a week of workshops and competitions to solve business challenges. The event focuses on applying technology to strengthen operations that help franchisees drive revenue, cut costs, and run operations more efficiently. Seems like an interesting initiative for operators.

🛒 Amadeus acquires SkyLink to speed up AI driven conversational booking for corporate travel. The deal aims to extend this technology into the wider travel ecosystem.

📊 Inn-Flow releases a report about AI adoption in hotel finance and labor, based on input from hotel executives, finance, and operations leaders. The research highlights where operators want AI to reduce manual work (invoices, transaction review, forecasting, spot anomalies sooner), while still requiring transparency and clear ownership.
