🧳 Tripadvisor and Airbnb pair up on travel experiences

Tripadvisor Group and Airbnb just announced a partnership that puts tours, activities and attraction tickets from Tripadvisor's catalogue inside Airbnb's app.

  • The deal covers more than 425,000 experiences sourced through Viator, Tripadvisor and other partners.

  • Airbnb users will be able to book these directly without leaving the app.

  • The launch is set for later this year.

  • Airbnb already expanded into experiences in May 2026, adding car rentals, grocery ordering and luggage storage.

That's a weird combination on paper. Airbnb and Tripadvisor compete for a slice of the same trip planning attention, but this shows distribution wins over pride.

But being honest, when you see those two names together you can’t help but see what they’re up to.

💳 Mews becomes its own bank for European hotels

Mews just picked up an Electronic Money Institution license from De Nederlandsche Bank, letting it process payments on its own infrastructure across the entire European Economic Area.

  • Mews can now bring operational and financial records into one system instead of splitting them across third party providers.

  • Mews reported $19.7 billion in hotel transaction value in 2025.

  • The regulated rollout starts in late 2026 with a pilot in the Netherlands before expanding across Europe.

  • Mews takes on fraud monitoring, sanctions screening and anti money laundering duties that used to sit with someone else.

Owning the license means Mews can have the full financial picture of a hotel's revenue, not just the booking side.

And yes, once you sit on that much transaction data, lending money starts to look like the obvious next step. Cash flow gaps are a real pain point for independent hotels, and a PMS that already knows your daily revenue is in a great spot to offer working capital or advances.

Wispr Flow turns your voice into clean, professional text inside any app. Emails, Slack, client updates — speak once, send without editing. 4x faster than typing.

🔭 Spain and Iceland “make the August (literally)” on the century eclipse

Hotel prices across Spain and Iceland spiked ahead of yesterday's total solar eclipse, the first visible from continental Europe this century.

Room rates in Reykjavik jumped close to 140%, and in A Coruña they more than doubled.

This is a neat example of event driven demand. A single date on the calendar moved prices more than most marketing campaigns ever could.

For lack of a better expression, I’m translating verbatim an expression we use in Spanish (hacer el agosto) when a business takes advantage of an opportunity to sell more. I relate to this because I live in Valencia. And the whole city had an eclipse psychosis this week.

INTEGRATIONS

🔌 Stayntouch connects with Sadie's AI voice host: the integration lets hotels answer every guest call and turn it into a confirmed reservation without adding work for the front desk. [Link]

🔌 Yelp adds reservations and waitlists to ChatGPT: users can now book a table or join a waitlist at thousands of restaurants without leaving the chat. [Link]

MARKET PULSE NEW SECTION!

The idea with this section is to track every week how some of the most important hospitality tech stocks move, comparing today's closing price to where it stood 7 days ago. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm not a financial advisor, and this isn't investment advice. I just find it useful as a thermometer for the hospitality tech market. Numbers alone don't tell the full story, so I'll also dig into what's driving the biggest moves each week.

This is a new section, so I'd love to know what you think (you can reply to this email or drop me a note here). If you find it useful, I'll keep doing it. If not, I'll try something else.

📉 Agilysys (AGYS) -3.1%: Seems like its CEO (Ramesh Srinivasa) sold about $21.3M in shares on Aug 7, plus another sale on Aug 5 and investors went into full panic mode. [Source]
